Lady Pirate by Lynsay Sands
3.0
3.5 stars
A decent historical romance-comedy that started out strong, then limped to its ho-hum conclusion. With a premise about a female pirate trying desperately to be married off in order to secure her inheritance, the first 2/3 of the book was a solid wild ride thanks to its collection of wacky sidekicks, and a slew of madcap scenarios. Unfortunately the budding romance (great while it lasted) kind of peaked and plateaued with a good chunk of its page count still left unaccounted for, resulting in an undesirable narrative shift, focusing on unnecessarily complex family drama involving flat secondary characters.
Lady Pirate was my first read from author Lynsay Sands; even though the lopsided story structure and some odd character development choices made this just an above-average read, there are enough likable elements here (passionate writing, and it was legitimately funny at times!) for me to continue seeking out her workâhopefully the next one will be even better!
