Heat Haven by Sarah Blue, Ashley Bennett

1.0

I have yet to find an omegaverse that holds a candle to Lola and the Millionaires… TEARS.

I like the concept of this book - first in a series of short standalone set in an omegaverse where alphas and omegas can ride out heats in a *controlled setting*. Basically, alphas pay top dollar for the chance to… help omegas… get through their heats. Super interesting set up, and I liked that this world seemed a bit lighter than other omegaverses I read where omegas are, like, hunted.

I understand this is a novella so we’ll be getting less face time and character development, but I truly felt I didn’t know the characters at all. We get POVs from Emily, the omega, and Griffin, an alpha, exclusively - until the epilogue, which jumps forward in time.

Emily felt… very Mary Jane. Sweet, beautiful, doesn’t curse, Southern belle. I thought it was funny that she told Griffin he should wait until after her first heat to decide if he wanted to pursue a relationship with her because she is “so different” during her heat. I was like… oh, is she a freak? But no, she just says “fuck” instead of “fricken”.

Because the majority of this 100-something book is steam (pre-heat and during the heat), we don’t get relationship development or plot. We meet the other alpha, Dion, during the heat only. He’s just a pretty face. I don’t have a problem with books that are solely smut - but it has to be GOOD smut. Most of the steamy scenes gave me the icks.

There were also a lot of grammar issues that felt clunky to me.

Will I try the next book in the series? Probably, because I like omegaverses and want to find another one that works for me so badly.
