The Shining by Stephen King

3.0

Jack Torrance has recently been hired at the Overlook Hotel after a mishap at his last job, and he's hoping for a fresh start. As he starts working at the Overlook Hotel, strange things start happening. Bushes start moving, he learns about the Overlook's dark past, and the hotel is putting his son in danger.

This is my fifth book I've read from Stephen King, and I think I've just come to realize that Stephen King isn't the author for me.

I really enjoyed the exploration of abuse on alcoholism in this novel, as well as the characters and their relationships, but I was just hoping for so much more from this. I didn't think this book was horrific at all. There were some really scary moments in the book, but a lot of it got undermined by the extremely slow plot and characters. I was really hoping for more of that horror.
