I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
5.0
Thank you Jennette McCurdy for sharing your story with us.
This book was HEAVY - child abuse, exploitation, eating disorders.
Initially this book made me so angry I wasn’t sure I could make myself finish it.
Lots of what Jennette had to say resonated with me. Her undiagnosed OCD (which she thought was Jesus Christ speaking to her), her eating disorders, her not having control over her own life, having to please her mother constantly and being her mom’s ONLY friend.... yeah. I appreciate this book. I feel seen. I’m so glad she has gotten the help and freedom she needed, and can make choices that best benefit her.
I am wondering why nothing substantial has happened to protect children in the industry though!!!! Parents definitely need to be screened and any red flags need to be reported!!!! Children need to have like child therapist onsets and stuff so they know there’s someone they can talk to in confidence. Jennette’s mother showed plenty of red flags that were ignored by EVERYONE and that’s what infuriated me the most!!! So yeah FUCK HER MOM, FUCK NICKELODEON, AND FUCK HER MANAGERS AND TEAM!!! THEY SUCKED!!!!!! AND LETS NOT FORGET FUCK HER “DAD” AND GRANDPARENTS TOO!!!!!! I’m so proud of Jennette for what you’ve accomplished on your own!!!!!!
While I am glad I read this, I have had lots of emotions and memories resurface about my own complicated relationship with my mom, my past eating disorders, and mental health issues. So please, if you begin to read this and it becomes too much, put it down.
