Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

3.0

Meh.

I am a sucker for epistolary stories and I did love that aspect of this one. I also loved the magical typewriters (and the story of their creation) that allowed the communication.

Everything else was flat. The pacing of the rivals to friends adjacent to lovers was weird. So much of the world and lore was told and not shown. I think the author was trying for a feeling of uncertainty? But it almost came across like she didn't know how to describe things so whatever, let's just gloss over it and call it "atmosphere."

Cliffhanger or not, I don't have much interest in reading the sequel.
