Les Fiancés de l'hiver by Christelle Dabos

5.0

This was my fourth or fifth re-reading and I am still deeply in love with this book.

I find it much more subtle than a lot of YA books. Christelle Dabos managed to create such a wide range of characters in which the secondary ones (Ophelie's godfather and godmother, Renard, Gaelle...) are as charismatic as the main ones (Thorn and Ophelie remain among my favorite fictional characters of all time). The universe is one of the most original I ever read and although this first volume only gives a glimpse of it it is full of promises.

Finally, one of the main reasons I love this book is the gentleness with which the dialogues are written and the relationships between characters evolve. SPOILER : It may be controversial because I read reviews stating the opposite but I find Thorn's " I am getting used to you " (translation is my own, sorry) terribly genuine and touching.

As usual when I finish this book, I feel a pinch of sadness but also lucky to have found such a cosy place to go when I feel low.
