Heartless by Ivy Fox

Just okay - a collection of tropes, with a possible new angle

Heartless is one of those romance books that creates drama and tension by forcing an unfortunate misunderstanding to occur. And rather than solve the easily fixable issue, characters either delay having critical conversations or choose not to believe a person they've known for years just because of one tiny thing that is no bigger than a white lie.

Also, not a huge spoiler, but still:
Spoiler
The twin boys Ollie and Asher, aka the FMC's first love interests, don't get to spend a lot of time with Snow/Holland, so when they do, they choose not to reveal a lot about their crappy personal issues. They don't even seem to know each other's last names. They just don't talk about heavy stuff. One of the boys even says:
"Spending any amount of time rehashing ugly shit is not what I want to do when we’re with Snow. When we’re together, whatever time we’re afforded is precious, so we make sure our little escape from reality is drama free."

So why do they, then, accuse her of lying when she hasn't revealed who her horrible mother is, or who her dad was, or that she is sick, etc. She left out the bad aspects of her life, and they punish her for it.

Kudos for trying to take a slightly new spin with the bully romance trope, but I wasn't a fan of the pointlessly manufactured drama. And I suppose that's what most bully romances are - there's no real reason for the hate. Sadly, with the loving way this book started, there reaaaally was no reason for the hate, and thus I couldn't get into the misunderstood problems that the characters had to face.

The ending promises some new twists, perhaps, so book #2 might be worth the read.

Fair warnings:
- There are hints at OW issues, but nothing major.
- There are a few nasty characters, and a guy who likes his girls young.
- The book ends on a cliffhanger.. about all of the things and happenings. Nothing is resolved, really.
