This is such a fun take on historical romance. The male protagonist, Merritt, is a barrister by day and a superhero by night. His character is loosely based on Spiderman. He meets his match in Veronica, a thief-taker.
Their meet cute is pretty spectacular. He is searching for an escaped convict and comes across her, as she detains a thief. Swordplay and innuendo ensue.
They have good chemistry and fun backstories. Their romance happens rather quickly. The main thing they join together for is a plot using riots, and I would love to have seen that more deeply examined. Overall, this is a fun and light historical romance. I'll have to check out the rest of the books in this series.
