This was my first time adventuring into the “Dreia-verse” and I don’t think it will be my last. I devoured Going Down Smooth in a day and despite a few hiccups, I still look forward to reading more of Wells’ catalogue in the future.

This black paranormal romance with its lovable cast of characters, compelling plot, and a tasteful bit of social commentary are what make this novel a breath of fresh air. This was my first time reading anything omega verse related, but as someone that used to love watching Supernatural the concept quickly felt like something I was akin to. The hierarchy (designation) in the omega verse seems to almost be like a small echo of the realities women face in this day and age coupled with the issue of class for those lower on the hierarchy like Betas, was an exploration I would not have expected from a paranormal novel. There are quite a few moments throughout the book where I found myself genuinely enchanted with Well’s writing style, her ability to balance multiple different POV’s, and the steady pacing of the plot.

However, a few typos and an Achilles heel (and also a huge pet peeve of mine) is the frequent usage of c*** during intimacy scenes. It put a slight damper on my reading experience, but it wasn’t enough for me to DNF because I was already thoroughly invested in these characters and the storyline from the prologue alone. Going Down Smooth is a story of love lost, trust rekindled, and self-assurance. Dreia Wells is author that seems to be on the brink of something special.
