Finally, opinions on teaching from an actual TEACHER. This book is the most honest and heartfelt portrayal of teaching in Australia I have ever read. It came into my life at just the right time and whilst parts of it were disillusioning to the career I've just spent 4 years studying towards, I finished the book feeling motivated and hopeful going into my teaching career, rather than depressed and overwhelmed. Gabbie's authorial voice is so honest and relatable, I connected with her journey so much (apart from the fact we have so much in common), I even found myself laughing out loud at times, and yes, there were a few tears!!! I really appreciated her dressing down of the bureaucracy and politicisation of the education system in Australia and its place in the classroom. Honestly, this book should be required reading for all tertiary education students in Australia. An absolute blessing to read and a stunning debut.
