My Story by Chris Stewart, Elizabeth Smart

2.0

I feel like this would have been a much better book if written by someone else. Maybe a better writer, for one, but also someone with enough distance from the emotional side of the story to actually tell it.

As it is, the book consists of 1/3 "It was too awful to describe, I'll just gloss over the entire experience" and 2/3 super-defensive "I really didn't want to be there, I SWEAR I never liked them, I never cooperated, you have to believe me!", which doesn't lend a whole lot of credibility to Elizabeth's claim that she doesn't need therapy because she immediately got over the ordeal by sheer willpower.
