Honestly this book surprised me. I had thought through the story that I knew how it was going to end, and I was wrong. The graphic and difficult themes are tastefully used to build a sense of fear and dread in the reader that I think really adds to the experience of reading this book, and we empathise with the difficult situation the main character is in within this dystopian world. It is not a book for the feint hearted and I would caution anyone wanting to give it a read to make sure to look up the content warnings before hand. Though I would highly recommend if you can stomach it!! The symbolism is gorgeously done, especially in the dream sequences, really emotional and heavy, well worth the read.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Body horror, Gore, Infertility, Infidelity, Violence, Dementia, Cannibalism, and Death of parent
Moderate: Confinement, Rape, Slavery, Classism, and Pandemic/Epidemic
