The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle

3.0

I love how when Holmes catches criminals they're pretty much all: "Jolly good, old chap. Let me confess now, no hard feelings." It seems so strangely British how calm and friendly they are about it. They sit down, have a drink, and talk about how circumstances drove them to become criminals. The criminal's backstory was worked much better into the story here than in A Study in Scarlet. You still get the whole life's history of the guy, but it's more smooth since he's narrating it after he gets caught as supposed to the sudden and random narration jump in Scarlet where you're just suddenly in Utah for no apparent reason.
