Wow! What a book, what an idea! Excellent story, excellent narrative and an ambient that although claustrophobic, it gives your mind space to think and reflect.
The anonymous protagonist has decided that taking a break from the world and sleep all day will wash away her traumas and she will be reborn. During her journey, she tries to forget her past, she tries to push away her best (and only) friend and looks with regret her relationship with her abusive lover.
I was angry and sad every time she was mean to Reva even when she just thought about it. Did not surprise me that at the end, she deeply missed her. But that was also a critic to the New York society, so superficial and good-looking with people being always on the run and anxious about their look, their job, their image.
Her -as the society demands- superficial job, the way that presents the artistic world...
Looking forward to read more books from Ottessa Moshfegh.
Highly recommended book.
