Always love an Ali Hazelwood book. Not sure why this one was specifically targeted to be YA, but I do think it fits well enough.
Mallory is a complex character who, like a lot of us, tends to focus a little too much on her own perspective and forget that others exist. Hazelwood also takes on the gender disparity within chess, with studies to back up her claims!
A bold opening, and perhaps an obvious endgame, but delightful nevertheless.
