Ghosts by Dolly Alderton

5.0

The story
Nina is a thirty something, single and successful Londoner. A good writer and cookbook author, she has managed to stop teaching and make her hobby a full time occupation. But behind the success, she is single and wishes she wasn’t, her father is struggling with his health and it doesn’t seem like her mother understands the seriousness of the situation. When Nina meets Max from a dating app, they find similarities and companionship, until he withdraws and “ghosts” her.

My thoughts
Dolly Alderton perfectly captures the life stage where every one around you is pairing off, not even with the most worthy of partners, having babies and moving on with their lives, leaving you behind. The specimens that are left in the dating pool don’t have ticking biological clocks and can keep fluttering from one to the next while they promise commitment, and run away from it soon thereafter. Her insights are sprinkled beautifully throughout the story and hit the mark. I think it’s a beautiful read ❤️
