The opening hooked me, and the story held me up until about halfway through. But at that point I got the sense that the author was flying through this journey right alongside the protagonist, not really sure where they would end up. That's not a sin in itself, but the conclusion left me wanting.
It didn't quite fit, like I was hearing the ending of a different story, of a different character. And maybe that's what the author was going for, that Malorie is not the woman she once was. But somehow it just fell flat.
