The seeds of Brandon Sandersons later great works, mainly in worldbuilding, are omnipresent. But he has a lot of learning and growing left in this book - the pacing is an absolute mess, the conlang feels stuffy, and the stereotypical foreigners he becomes so fond of are far from loveable. Nothing happened for 90% of the book, only for him to start pelting us with facts he didnt manage to work in elsewhere on the home stretch. Unfortunately, this book deserved better. At least Hoid was there.
