Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
Did not finish book. Stopped at 0%.
I’m 75 pages in, and it’s dry and boring. I’ll give it the requisite 20% (100 pages) before giving up on it. It is not emotionally engaging at all and there is a lot of unnecessary mystery. I’ve had to figure out a lot of things from context which makes me feel like an outsider. Some simple world-building in the beginning would have been helpful rather than a dry backstory.
It switches between characters without warning which is confusing. I don’t feel like I know any of them nor do I have a reason to care about them. I feel sad for Wanda and I want her to be happy but that’s it. I don’t know if I like Myriam or not.
I also think child abuse might be an automatic no-go for me if I see it in the content warnings.
