This book has left me craving a true thriller. The romance was underwhelming. The overarching theme got lost amidst so many threads of plot. I wanted to love it, but that just isn't going to happen.
The handling of the adult/minor relationship as the ultimate mystery, as well as the drug use in the story, literally made content warnings an actual spoiler. Creating a story in which those kinds of experiences are treated without the due respect to readers is unnecessary. I understand the why and the how, but I wish things had been done differently or that the mystery had been murder. This story hits too close to home, and if I'd known beforehand what I was getting, I wouldn't have read the book. When reading is escapism, I don't want to run back to my own reality.
I added the 0.5 because the writing style was easy to read and the romance was better in the first half.
