3.5
Pros:
- The story deals with important topics and portrays them well.
- The art conveys mood very effectively.
- The outfit designs are gorgeous and detailed.
- All the beautifully illustrated horses and camels (dromedaries?)
- The chapter where the characters wrote letters home had a cinematic quality I really liked.
Cons:
- I found some of the more action-heavy scenes a bit hard to follow.
- I wasn’t able to get fully immersed (but that’s the case with most graphic novels, so it’s probably more of a me problem)
Graphic: Racism, Violence, Xenophobia, Fire/Fire injury, Colonisation, War, and Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Death, Hate crime, Blood, and Police brutality
