To Be Devoured by Sara Tantlinger

5.0

This book is so horrific and beautiful all at the same time.
It reads very lyrical and almost like poetry, and I devoured it in one night, unable to put it down.
The writing drags you in and the story keeps you there. Just when you think things can’t get worse, they tumble downwards and you just have to sit and watch. Andi starts small and digs her grave deeper and deeper.
Andi is a traumatised unreliable narrator who is obsessive and desperate for both love (from Luna) and understanding for what it would be like to be a vulture.

*spoilers*

I wasn’t expecting the therapist twist but oh my god it was so good, and it was built up from the very beginning. It left me jaw dropped for the rest of the book. I’m so relieved Luna got away, it was a toss up whether or not she’d make it, becuase to be honest I expected Andi to want her to die together.

- “It's been too long, and I need her badly, need her to make me human again.”
Words cannot describe how much I love this quote, it’s so toxic and obsessive but it sums up Andi and Luna’s relationship perfectly.

- Our deaths deserve no other meaning than to be devoured. Our bodies have ruined the earth, it seems only right such bodies should give back to nature, to the animals.
I love this line, it’s so poetic and reminds me of the circle of life.
