Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
4.0
This book gave me mixed feelings.
It was written so well, for a first published book it was soooo great!
I fell in love with the richness of all the details: I could see that tofu giggling in the pot, the tiny baby shoes in Michelle's hand, or the way she was stepping with the heels in the grass. So rich!
I was absorbed with the mother-daughter bond through korean food, that was something so delightful to go through and it felt so personal but not many moments like that were present. The details Michelle knew about her mom of what she likes or what she desires was a little bit touching.
But speaking of personal, the book overall felt detached from us, readers. We were only looking through the window of our author's scenes which was a raw experience of what life is about but didn't feel like it gets too close to us.
As a whole book, it's nice to go through but didn't feel like I could connect in many ways with the author.
