I will start by exposing my biases: I LOVE thrillers. Like no one could love thrillers more than me. And this is one of the best in class. You can tell that the author did his homework in ensuring that the thriller portions are plausible (minus the part where our hero doesn't die of internal injuries, naturally).
I found this book in a Little Free Library in Durham, NC, and am so truly very glad that I did. I am leaving it at another Little Free Library for someone else to enjoy. I will put further books by this author on my reading wishlist.
As for the mystery that underlay the thriller -- it kept me guessing until the very end.
If you are a thriller fan, pick up this book. It is a winner.
