100 Days of Happiness by Fausto Brizzi
4.0
It is rare that I do not know what to say about a book immediately upon finishing it, but this is one of those books. When I first heard about it at my Book Club, my gut reaction was that this would be one of those somewhat maudlin plots suitable for a Lifetime Movie. It was not that.
I started out feeling about Lucio much as his wife did - and ended up cheering for him. I am not sure I would agree with every choice he made but then that is not really the point of the novel. We are all on the same course as he is in the novel but with much less awareness of it. What he came to realize, I won’t share here - no spoilers- but it was deftly communicated and well told by the author.
All that said - I am not sure why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars. Predictability is virtually guaranteed in a book like this so that is not it. Perhaps it was knowing that it would be happy/sad from page 1. In any case, I would recommend it as a good read!
