Kincaid by Marie James

4.0

This MC book was different from ones I read before, but, I liked it. I thought the concept of an all former military MC was interesting.

I liked Kincaid. I also liked Shadow, Kid, Doc, and Rose. I liked that Emmalyn was able to bond with Rose, and cane to trust Kid, Shadow, and Doc.

I listened to the audio on this book and enjoyed Aaron Shedlock's narration. I think Kasha Kensington did justice to Emmalyn's character.

Although this was a great way to pass a lazy Sunday, I thought Emmalyn and her behavior was ridiculous. I was willing to accept her being so afraid and desperate to get out of her situation that she would hop on a motorcycle with someone who defended her and drive away.

Almost everything past that point with this woman was irritating. Her behavior after arriving at the clubhouse was completely incongruous with the life she had been living.

I didn't understand how she managed to be so judgmental about other people's lifestyle and character. How could she justify being so jealous about Kincaid? I kept waiting to hear the word "divorce" from someone. Thankfully, I wasn't holding my breath waiting.

Kincaid was all in from the moment he saw Em and Bobby at the back of the bar. I'm not saying Kincaid was right in his thinking that her husband was her ex, but he wasn't the one that was married. Kincaid protected, tried to please, and cared for Em. That was the romantic part of the book.

Em had at least 2 jealous hissy fits about Bunny without giving Kincaid the benefit of the doubt. Em was able to stand her ground with Kincaid and Kid mere days after getting out of her abusive situation that lasted for YEARS. That in itself didn't discount the abusive situation. It made me wonder if she let these strangers help her, why didn't she try to get help from other strangers? Did an opportunity never present itself? It just didn't seem plausible. I had questions.

If Em's sudden backbone had been a gradual process or if she had gotten therapy, or shared her experience with someone who had some level of understanding, her "about face" behavior would have been an easier pill to swallow.

Emmalyn fell into her new life so easily and didn't seem to be concerned with the fact that she was still married to a truly dangerous man. It was weird.

This book had its challenges and the outcome was also interesting. Since I had this book, and an audiobook of the first box set, I will keep working my way through the series.
