Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne
5.0
I'm going to think of this play/script as something separate from the main series. At first I was sceptical about how the story would come across on paper rather than seeing it performed in a play. I'm sure from the amazing reviews, it comes across so much better as you have the visuals in front of you rather than trying to imagine it through the stage directions. (I mean I tried to get tickets but when you're 221,000th in the queue there's no point haha) They should seriously release it on DVD once the shows are over... Well, if they're secretly filming one show... *Just saying!*
Aside from that, the storyline itself is amazing. Slow at first, but you've got to speed up from where Deathly Hallows left off to the point where they want to tell the story. Of course stage directions don't give much to the imagination, but when you've seen the films 20 times over, it's pretty easy to forgive the lack of magicalness and fill in with your own descriptions. The cliffhangers at the end of each act and part one are jaw dropping - you would never guess if you haven't come across any spoilers.
I wasn't sure at first, but I loved the friendship between Albus and Scorpius - and you surprisingly warm to Draco Malfoy by the end. I'm obviously being very vague here but having read it in three days, each sitting with a coffee and some chocolate, it's the perfect read if you're a casual or even die hard potterhead.
Personally, I will always think of this as something separate from the main series, even though it's being come across as the eighth book. It's not guys, it's just an extra like Fantastic Beasts. And as long as you think of it as that, you'll be hooked and feel sad you didn't buy tickets. Either way this is a MUST READ.
