Pain by Zeruya Shalev

4.0

I almost wanted to thank PAIN'S narrator & protagonist Iris for being so vulnerable, unfiltered, and unabashed—simultaneously, I often found myself begging her to stop. PAIN'S narrative won't take you where you expect, just as real pain seldom does. What begins as a traditional story of a rekindled love and a passionate affair slowly (and achingly) devolves into a mother's valuable lesson: you don't do your child any real service by wearing a mask in front of them. They want to care for you as much as you do them. All anyone wants is to take care of someone else, maybe. Will be thinking about this one
