The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix

4.0

I wish there was a half star option since this is a solid 3.5 but I will settle for going up to a 4.

This book was... odd. Not odd in a good way like My Absolute Darling but odd in the sense that the author seemed to be unable to pick a genre. Hendrix mixed elements you would get from Dracula, pedophilia, small town book club mystery solvers, and your garden variety psychological thriller to create a read that can't be categorized or described well.

I wouldn't say it is cohesive or ground-breaking but it was entertaining nonetheless. However, there are some hidden gems in here. For example, in the attic scene (you will know when you read it) there was a description that made me cringe and squirm like no other and I give props to the writer for being able to make me truly repulsed.

Would I recommend this book to others? Probably not since it seems to be something you stumble upon rather than recommend since it combines so many genres I can't see one particular audience finding it appealing but it is definitely worth a read if you want something weird.
