Rebel Angels by Libba Bray

3.0

Okay, I'm not gonna lie, Libba Bray is an amazing author with strong writing but there's just a lot so wrong about this book.

Let's start out with the characters. It blows me so hard that Fee and Ann were oblivious to Pips changing when she literally had blood on HER and killed an animal over them. I don't understand how Gemma was the only one able to grasp that. I also hate how Gemma makes ever so little comments about Anns' body every second she gets. Like okay, we get it, she's chubby and cuts herself.

Don't even get me started on the horrible SH rep throughout this book. I promise you it's inaccurate and it just made me mad how everyone ignored it.

Also, I had to take a breather and put the book down at the scene where Gemmas 'boyfriend' pretty much drugged her and borderline SAed her at a party. It was absolutely hideous and glossed over. To set the scene, Gemma gets taken to the attic (presumably a maid's room) non-consensually whilst she is unable to move or talk for herself. He starts to undress her and she audibly says "Stop", but he ignores that and doesn't stop until she falls into a vision and starts screaming.

After this scene, it was NEVER mentioned again, and Gemma continued to fawn over him until she came to her senses and cut him off, YET she still doubted her choices once she was back at the school.

Disgusting, horrible, gutwrenching. I hated it with a burning passion.

I also don't like that Libba felt the need to add other cliches into here too, such as the mommy issues with like every character she could.

Oh, and daddy issues too! Surprise! Felicitys father does inappropriate things to children, and guess what! Her mom couldn't care less. Again, this is another thing that is HEAVILY glossed over, and it's not even mentioned until the end of the book, further proving my point that Libba Bray was running out of things to add to the book.

Three stars, no further comments to add.
