Killing Trail by Margaret Mizushima

I forget who first brought this series to my attention, but thank you. I really enjoyed this, though the narrator wasn't quite to my liking, but she was easy to listen to.

The mystery was layered nicely, and the red herrings were believable. While the immediately murders are solved in this one, there's still more to investigate in the larger mystery going forward. Mattie and her K-9 Robo are newly certified and ready to prove themselves. Mattie doesn't make stupid mistakes, and the few times she overlooks things make sense because she's still getting used to Robo and how working with a K-9 is different from working with human cops.

The vet, Dr. Walker, has some improving to do. He needs a better work/life balance, lol, especially with two girls who need him now more than ever. It's obvious that Mattie and Cole are going to hook up at some point in the future, but hopefully that's allowed to happen organically and isn't rushed because neither one is in a place for that kind of relationship right now.
