Lucha of the Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia

adventurous dark emotional

5.0

This book has such specific and wonderful vibes and atmosphere. I absolutely love Lucha, maybe because I too have the eldest-sibling-struggles and trauma haha. This book reaches such depths of darkness while also maintaining that sense of wonder at the magic. And I so love me some plant magic.

The pacing did kind of weird me out and I think some of the time jumps needed better execution. But even though it’s not perfect I’m giving it five stars because I’ve read nothing like it and it brought up such deep specific feels and the writing was wonderful. It’s one of my favorite books ever.

I also was so pleased the way the romance ended up. You never see it like that, where the characters are like “ya know, we’re only like sixteen, we still have some living and learning to do, so see you later maybe?” I LOVED that. I feel like given each character’s opportunity to grow, maybe if we get a second book the romance would have grown also and become deeper. I love the wisdom.
