The Extraordinaries by TJ Klune

2.0

I didnt have big expectations but if it was 200 pages shorter and not so OBVIOUS, it would've been a lot better

COVER So pretty, so cute. Perfect for the book. It's what pulled me to it. I chose this book because it's T.J. Klune's YA debut and I wanted to read it but oh what a mistake it was.

PLOT I was never a fan of superheroes. I didn't even know this book was about them before someone mentioned it. But that's my mistake (blame me for never reading the summary). Anyway. I thought "Why not?" It could be interesting.
The plot SUCKS. From beginning to end it's so painfully obvious. There wasn't a single moment that made me curious about the story. All the cliches are there. Dead parents. Tragic past. Crazy dads. Secrets. Secret crushes. Also, let me not tell you how much I hate the best friends-to-lovers trope but that's only my preference. Every. Single. Thing. in this book is so damn predictable.

CHARACTERS Nick. Such an annoying and useless boy. I didn't like him, didn't feel bad or sorry for him. So what if you have ADHD? This doesn't justify how you act with your friends. I know some people can be very obvious but come on. No one is THAT oblivious.
Seth. Hate him too. If you want to keep your friends safe and away from superheroes, being an ass shitty friend and slipping hints is not the way.
Gibby. All cool. Funny. Not cool about hiding stuff and working with Seth. Couldn't make her more obvious too.
Gibby's gf is like that girly rich blonde that everyone thinks is dumb but she's actually smart. She was cool.
Owen. I liked him actually. Because he was bad and teasing and hinting. He was just playing his game.

My favorite moments were the conversations with Nick's dad. No one has such conversations with their parents but it was funny.

OVERALL Hate the story, hate the characters. Not everyone needs to be gay! But it was fun and a bit entertaining.
