Ok there’s gonna be some spoilers here but we’ve all had 150 ish years to read it so..

<I really loved the first half of this book but once I got to the main conflict I had a really hard time continuing to enjoy it. I completely understand that books are a product of their time and I can look past a lot in the way of language and themes that we would never use today. Especially considering Charlotte Brontë would probably be considered a liberal if she were writing today. But at the same time it’s hard for me to enjoy a book where the main conflict is based off a woman going mad, being locked up for 15 years, and considered a lunatic. I don’t blame her for writing it, but I can’t blame myself for not finding it and entertaining storyline. Also every man in this book was a manipulative asshole and it’s a shame that the whole story about a strong, passionate woman that was so ahead of it’s time in that way ended with the main character going back to said manipulative asshole.>
