Breaking His Code by Patricia D. Eddy

3.5

3.75/5🌶️, Hoopla Audiobook, first in a series but complete standalone, novella, romantic suspense/mystery, military, PTSD and physical disability after war, computer programmer, ex-army FMC, gym-owning ex-SEAL MMC

This book is the first in the Away From the Keyboard series. I’ve read a few others in the series (out of order), but when I needed a book I could put on in the background for a very busy day, this was the perfect book. It was a bit more “slice of life” less action-adventure than I expected. I liked that both the main characters were ex-military dealing with trauma and disabilities and adjusting to civilian life. A lot of the book deals with the FMC dealing with personal trauma and leaning to communicate and ask for help. I appreciated her character even if I was yelling “just talk to him!” much of the time.  The action was pretty well contained within the last third and if you blinked, you missed most of it. Eddy really picks up the action and peril in the books later in the series. I didn’t dislike this book, but it didn’t blow me away. The spice was nice but just barely more explicit than open door books. There was a very nice mutual masturbation over video chat scene though. I enjoyed that! Overall, a good start to the series and a great book to have on in the background while I was doing a hundred other things.
