All the Way Home by Wendy Corsi Staub

2.0

My 2 star rating is generous and is only because the book kept me intrigued. I had high hopes and every turn kept me guessing. There were so many characters and inner narrations going on that I had a hard time keeping track of what was really going on. I was so curious to find out the answer to all of the secrets and red herrings flying around the book that it kept me hooked. However, there are so many things that bothered me about the characters. All of the characters were very artificial and annoying. And many of the pieces of plot were so cliche that I was constantly rolling my eyes. The one-liners that came across the lips of the characters were so cheesy at times that it was nauseating. HUGE spoiler ahead.
SpoilerAnd who sells their house when they have their victims' bodies hidden inside? And how did John so miraculously put everything together just by having the suspicion that it was an underground railroad house? Those are some pretty big leaps to take. The Travis being Molly's dad story line seemed like an afterthought shoved in like maybe the author thought, "crap, I never explained who her father was." Oh and the entire pregnancy and c-section stuff was beyond idiotic. I know the book was published in 1999 but c-sections couldn't have been that barbaric then to have not let the mother hold the baby because of the incisions or to even put the mother under completely for the procedure? I'm no doctor but that seems pretty off.
