House of Secrets: Battle of the Beasts, by Ned Vizzini, Chris Columbus

This book is the exact definition of a wild ride. It was fun, loud and crazy.

The plot was full of twists and turns, and lots of both fantastic and historical elements, which made this book educative as well as enjoyable. Yeah, there were a bunch of things that didn't make much sense or were way too over-the-top, but if you read this with an open mind and simply play along, you will love it.

The characters were more explored during this book than the previous one, and I feel like I got to know more of them, their goals and their aspirations. They were slightly cliché but I think I can get past this because of the lovely bond they had and developed as the story progressed. They were a really adorable family and I would read about them forever.

Besides the issues I pointed before, some characters' decisions enraged me and were cartoonishly dumb, and the writing had moments in which it sounded rather childish, but those were just minor problems and I believe most readers can forget them for the positives of the story.

In general, this was the perfect entertaining book. It was full of action, magic and monsters, and I recommend it to everyone who is looking for some amazing adventures and just great fun.
