The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill

5.0

I haven't read a fantasy book in a long time, but WOW did this book make me want to read more. The story was page-turning (metaphorically speaking, I was listening to the audiobook), the characters were endearing, and the plot was complex without being confusing. I loved the way the various plotlines and character arcs intersected and I especially loved the way the stories and legends were interspersed throughout the book to keep the reader just half a step ahead of the characters. I would also highly recommend the audiobook version, as the narration was excellent. I picked this book on a whim as I was browsing my library's audiobook app and the summary seemed interesting and I'm so glad I did! Once I finished it, I looked it up and realized it won a well-deserved Newbery. I couldn't recommend this book enough.
