I’m not really a fangirl of the Marvel Univ/erse. That’s not to say
that I’m above watching the movies, I just don’t necessarily have
the need to. I do understand the appeal, the manic pull that makes you have to rush out and see the first showing at a movie theater. I had this book on my radar almost since it was published. I read the book description hastily and for some reason thought this was going to be about a girl who quashes the mafia patriarchy. I wasn’t overly excited to discover it was about superheroes and supervillains, but I was pleasantly surprised at Ms. Walschots different take on superheroes. It turns the normal trope of a superhero saving the day on its head and instead dares to question at what cost. The last 100 pages fly by, it’s the middle that found me slowly pushing through. I found the main character Anna to be engaging and her ability to crunch numbers on an excel spreadsheet not only is resourceful, but also proof that the right combination of words along with a spreadsheet can very well be considered a weapon of destruction. Not all heroes wear capes. I particularly enjoyed the latter half of the beginning and the last 100 pages. A solid 4 stars for me.
