Fables, Vol. 19: Snow White by Bill Willingham

2.0

I've been reading Fables more out of habit than enjoyment at this point and this volume clearly marks where I need to sever all ties. I'd earlier abandoned Jack of Fables and then Fairest to stick to the main storyline, but even here I'm well past the point of caring. The Bufkin business is both rushed and boring. The rest of it was similarly ho-hum and by the time a major character is dispatched anticlimactically (ironically at the climax), I was ready to throw this book across the room. This confirmed my theory that Fables is best enjoyed volumes 1 through 10, The End. Even back then, I thought that was a satisfying end to the series, but it kept going and going and going. Not that there weren't some great stories post-Adversary, but it's been increasingly diminished returns and now, I'm finished. Thanks, Fables team, it's been fun.

P.S. I've been quite enjoying the TellTale adventure game version, which harkens back to the simpler "Fables secretly living in New York" stories.
