The Walking Dead, Vol. 1: Days Gone Bye by Robert Kirkman

5.0

Like many others here, I started reading "The Walking Dead" graphic novels after watching the TV series. So far, I have only seen season one, and since Netflix doesn't offer anymore episodes after season one, I decided I better read the books to get my fix!

Anyway, I'll start by saying that I did notice how the show took care to take shots directly from the book; Rick riding the horse down the street heading into Atlanta, when the zombie bites Amy, etc. One thing I could feel the most while reading the book is the sheer isolation being projected in the drawings. I thought the art was very effective.

I also really appreciated the introduction by the author when he said that this series will be about gore and scares, and how it is a commentary on humans and their struggles. This was a primary reason why I loved "World War Z" so much and I'm sure I'll love this series too.

I have no idea when season two will arrive from the library or show up on Netflix, but until then I'm sure I'll be more than happy with the graphic novel in the meantime. Very happy with the first book and looking forward to volume 2 arriving at my library.
