The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

2.0

Yet another book by Holly Black that was meh for me and a whole series that I managed to finish before 2021 goes (yes, it's the only one LOL!)

The Folk of the Air was a genuinely fun choice featuring faeries, political intrigue and betrayals as well as a feel-good enemies to lovers romance that didn't really appeal to me that much. It feels like a lukewarm ACOTAR without the high level of worldbuiling and plot detail Maas has put into these books, or a poor imitation of The Iron Fey--the series lacked originality and only the female protagonis. Jude Duarte. was worth reading about.

This exact feeling of repetitive plot points was the reason the series won't cut it for me as a great YA choice. I get the love that all bookstagrammers and readers have for this book, I truly do, but I guess that the world was more MG and the heroine more YA and the romance more NA, a daring combination that deflated my hype to say the least, for me.
