The Sandman, Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman

5.0

I started reading this because several people had told me how perfect it is. Going in to it I was pretty skeptical. As I read the first story I felt disappointed as it seemed to be a slightly generic throwback to old radio horror stories. As I got through the second and third story I realized that it was probably the best graphic novel I had ever read. Each story is just as unpredictable as the last. Stories range from battling a demon in a game of logic (set in an awesome Tom Waitsesque bar in hell,) to Dream having a story length conversation with his sister Death in a park.

The marriage between art style and story telling is so good it makes me feel as if Neil Gaiman and co are Gods.

Sandman is almost too good...
