The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

4.0

Didn't come in with any nostalgia but still enjoyed the world Pullman built. Felt like it fell victim to some of the tropes of YA with certain situations being resolved too simply or adults being one dimensional. Also felt like Pullman didn't capitalize on the suspense in a few cases, most notably the ending. Still was able to connect with the characters (really just Lyra and Iorek, no one else really has characterization) and the daemon's were super cute. Curious to see where the rest of the trilogy goes from here
