This was an interesting take on a gothic fairy tale. Roshani Chokshi has a way of really setting up the world and bringing you in. The story is interesting, dark, keeps you wanting more but somewhere around the middle it slows and I started to drift, often times wondering where the story was going.

Overall, I’m impressed with this lush YA story. It definitely has some adult themes. Read trigger warnings.

EDIT::: I thought it was YA but it’s her adult debut 😞

MAJOR SPOILER
Spoiler The step dad is a total perv and it pissed me off so bad that the mom was complacent and then Indigo used this trauma and compared her repeatedly to this old fairytale. She even went as far to say many hero’s lusted after their daughters and I just wanted to barf.
