A Fire in the Flesh by Jennifer L. Armentrout

dark

3.0

Sera and Nyktos are being held prisoner by Kolis. Sera reveals to Kolis that the soul of Sotoria is inside her, and she bargains with him for Nytkos' freedom. Sera has to make Kolis believe that she is in love with him. The inner workings of how Kolis created his Revenants is revealed. Callum's identity as Sotoria's brother becomes clear. Sera embraces her power as the Primal of Life and Queen of the Gods and stops the Rot. Towards the end of the book, things started to lean on deus ex machinas too much, especially with the large diamond that will miraculously solve all of Sera's problems by holding Sotoria's soul. I will still read the the next book in the series, but I preferred the first two books in the series more.

This book was just too intense for me. I love the Sera and Nyktos relationship, but I didn't care for all of the creepy non-consensual scenes between Kolis and Sera. It was too disturbing.
