The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson

adventurous dark mysterious
  • Loveable characters? No

3.0

Things I loved:
- the twists (I was hooked)
- the turns (almost stayed up past midnight and considered skipping school to finish it)
- the mystery (honestly the entire book is kinda worth it for the mystery)

Things I didn't love:
- the characters (the MC is an insufferable brat and thinks that's a good thing)
- the character morals/motivations (I didn't follow anyone's morals or motivations, which kept shifting just because? They didn't make any sense.)
- the character growth
(her small romantic fling in a subplot(which tbh didn't make sense, and a platonic relationship would have been more impactful) is what ultimately helped her get past her abandonment issues that drove the entire book? And then she was suddenly fine with people leaving her and it wasn't hard at all, despite MASSIVE trauma at the end?)

- the ending (it seemed like the author had a clear picture in her head of the ending, and she twisted everything else to fit it. Was not really satisfactory.)

TL:DR: very typical YA story, but with a really good mystery imo
