This is the sequel to Drain Me, and it closely follows where we left off in the first book. Honestly, I was disappointed with the direction this book went and the synopsis is misleading. Ellie is the one who searches out Dublin and attempts to gain his company again, by literally going to his home, rather than him searching her out to offer a new bargain. I also feel like Dublin’s deception isn’t really shocking?
To be completely honest, this was not as enjoyable as the first book. The characters seem completely different, the mysterious and dark vibe of the first book is gone, and the romance lost its appeal. This book also focuses on the romance with hints of the plot, and since I lost interest in the romance, this book didn’t really work for me. I’m sure I would have loved it if I was still rooting for the couple though, so don’t lose hope!
Other than the romance, I also wasn’t a fan of Ellie. In the first book she was daring and brave, willing to do things that made her uncomfortable just to spite Dublin. In this book, she was more annoying and turned into a damsel in distress. She was almost constantly crying and doubting, question whether Dublin actually cares for her or not. She is also trash at taking care of herself, so Dublin had to act as her nurse by feeding, cleaning, and medicating her. By the end of the book, I was left wondering if she was actually confident and happy, since we never really got any build up to her recovery. She was just suddenly happy.
Dublin is still an enjoyable character. He is still harsh and rough, but I still feel like I don’t really know him. It also doesn’t help that they didn’t communicate much. They would be suspicious of each other, maybe yell and argue a little bit, and then have sex and pretend everything is fine and the cycle repeats.
Overall, I was really disappointed with how Ellie’s character turned out and I still have a lot of unanswered questions. If this book still interest you, then definitely read it:)
