The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

4.0

I don't know quite what I thought of this on the whole. It's a very small, quiet story, really, but you feel like it should be more somehow. Reading Stiefvater's Prinz nomination speech, she talks about how she wanted to transport the reader to another world inside the book--Thisby--which never really happened for me. This is why I haven't given it 5 stars. I really enjoyed the characters though; they felt like real people with complex motivations that seemed indecipherable to one another, especially Puck and Gabe. I'm glad they came to some sort of accommodation at the end.

There was also a lot that went unsaid but perhaps implied at the end of this, but it did end on a hopeful note and with a lot of implications for the future. I hope that all of the characters managed to find their happiness at least.
