Part of me really enjoyed this, and part of me didn't. It sort of reminded me of the later seasons of walking dead where the character deaths felt gratuitous. There was always something going wrong, always some issue to solve, after a while it felt repetitive. I suppose that is the nature of books like these, but I wished there were more character moments interspersed in the chaos. It was all so bleak, with no moments of happiness to break up the sadness, and so part of me wondered if they'd just be better off dead!
The ending simultaneously frustrated me and made me rush to download book 2 to know what happens to the characters. But at the same time, after reading the first chapter of book 2 I wonder if it will continue to be the same bleak merry go round as the first.
Perhaps these sort of grimdark horror sci fi books just aren't for me, I was really aching for SOME sort of happiness.
But I want to keep reading?? I don't know lol This one is hard for me to review.
